Le icone del design modernista raccolte in un libro illustrato

Uscito nel 2014, Mid-Century Modern è un fortunato libro — curato dal critico e giornalista britannico Dominic Bradbury — che analizza uno dei più importanti movimenti nella storia del design, il modernismo di metà ‘900.

Quasi una sorta di enciclopedia illustrata, il volume ha dato vita anche a una serie di pubblicazioni, o meglio di “espansioni”: nel 2016 uscirono infatti quaderni, cartoline e leporelli illustrati dallo studio creativo Here Design, studio che ora, sempre per Thames & Hudson, ha realizzato Mid-century Modern: Icons of Design, libro di 200 pagine che raccoglie cronologicamente quasi 100 icone del design dell’epoca, tra sedie, lampade, ceramiche, telefoni, radio, automobili, macchine per scrivere, opera di mostri sacri come Charles & Ray Eames, Gio Ponti, Arne Jacobsen, Gino Sarfatti, Jean Prouvé, Vico Magistretti, Dieter Rams, Marcello Nizzoli, Ettore Sottsass, Verner Panton, Eero Saarinen e tanti altri.

A ciascuna delle icone è dedicata una doppia pagina, con un’illustrazione originale, opera di Here Design, e un testo a cura di Frances Ambler, giornalista di una rivista che al modernismo è interamente dedicata: MidCentury Magazine.
